My Answers

Remember this? Well, here's my answers...

"If you don't have a p*nis how do you hold it?" (When you have to go to the bathroom, but you have to wait.)
I just have to squeeze my muscles together so that the pee doesn't come out.

"Why are small poops harder to push out than big poops?"
Well, small poops aren't really ready to come out yet, so it's harder to push them out. To which Quinn said, "Oh - are they not sludgy and slippery enough?" Yup, that's right, they're not sludgy and slippery enough. If you've ever read, "The Body Book" from USBorne books, you'll know what we're talking about - it refers to poop as sludgy stuff.

Of course, the only revenge for having to answer such questions is to take your kid to see the dinosaur exhibit at the zoo, which he loved, but the revenge comes by forcing him to take a picture with you in front of one of the meat eating dinosaurs!

Those Crazy Green Liberal Neighbors

Another conversation between Mike and I using our blackberry messenger.

Cathy: My dad got us a water barrel.
Cathy: I want to order a compost bin and maybe a clothes line today.
Cathy: Our neighbors are gonna think we're crazy green liberals.
Cathy: Cuz only liberals compost and save water.
Cathy: Not to mention your lawn mower.
Mike: You're funny. Do you think you could ask your dad if he could get another one?
Mike: I want to build solar panels too.

Quinn's Questions

Quinn wants to know:

"If you don't have a p*nis how do you hold it?" (When you have to go to the bathroom, but you have to wait.)
"Why are small poops harder to push out than big poops?"
I'll update with my answers in a few days - how would you answer these questions?

Fill in the blank...

So, Quinn's preschool teachers gave us a little scrapbook of pictures, projects, and other things they did through the school year. It's pretty cool, especially the part where they ask the kids questions, or ask them to fill in the blank, and they typed up all the answers. Here's Quinn's responses:
My family is special because I like to do everything with them.
What is your favorite way to eat an apple? donut apple
How do you know it is fall? The tress are changing colors.
What is inside of a pumpkin? seeds
What are you thankful for? My house and my toys
How do you know it's winter? Because it's snowing out there.
What do you like to do in the snow? Sled down the hill.
If you were going on a trip, what would you put in your suitcase? My mom.
If you could go anywhere, where would you go? to the beach.
What do you want to be when you grow up? Astronaut
What is your favorite thing to eat? M&M ice cream
If you had a rainbow of your own, what would you do with it? slide down it
Where does the trash go? in the trash
If you were on a mission to space what would you take with you? A blankie
Why does it rain? Because the plants have to grow.
What would you do if it rained jellybeans? Eat them!
Why do we sleep? Because it's night time, but sometimes you are sleepy in the morning too.
If you could have any animal for a pet, which one would you have? butterfly
What is your favorite thing about Mommy? She plays dinosaur game.
What is your favorite thing about Daddy? Wrestle him after dinner.
Whis is your favorite thing about preschool? play with the spiderman car.
Oh? And that picture up there? Quinn had a nasty splinter - it required lots of ice, probing with a needle, a teeny tiny bit of blood, and an insane amount of whining and tears. Of course, part of that was my fault, I forgot that my grandpa would always have me hold ice on my splinters while he gathered the tools to remove it. I started the process without ice. Duh. Anyway, I wanted to get a picture of the nasty splinter, but failed at getting it to focus right, and Quinn stopped looking so sad and pathetic the minute the camera came out. So, yeah, it's just a picture of Quinn and an out-of=focused splinter in a pair of tweezers.

I'm a Twitter Quitter.

You know what happens, don't you? We keep adding stuff to do to our endless list of things we are "responsible" for. If you think about this logically, then really, we should be also taking things off of our lists of things we do. When we don't, bad things happen. Like, for example, your pictures that you've been taking with your fancy new camera get looked at all the time, but you find you don't have time to actually sort them, rate them, print them, and scrap them. And being behind on this makes me feel overwhelmed. Or you might forget to switch the laundry and then the next day we've got some stinky stuff in the wash. This makes me feel overwhelmed. Or you might look around your house and see that you still need to finish putting the winter clothes away (not too bad, since it did just snow a month ago) and you need to bring out the spring/summer clothes and you need to get your toenails painted. This makes me feel overwhelmed. And when I started thinking about all the things I'm responsible for, or all the things I feel like I need to do, I really started feeling overwhelmed. So... I quit.

After 4, 386 updates, I posted my "last" update. (Last is in quotes, because I updated two more times - in response to others.)

I almost posted a quick question on how to take a picture of your computer screen, but then I just grabbed my camera and took a picture the old fashioned way. You know, the old fashioned way, with a digital camera.

Do I miss it? Sometimes? I find myself reaching for my blackberry at stoplights to catch up on everyone, then putting it down again. I need to figure out how to get that application off of my blackberry. I'd miss it a lot more if I didn't still have facebook.

And I realize that tweeting on twitter is not really a responsibilty, but it was always on my mental list of things to do - check out the latest tweets. So, I'd end up on twitter for quite awhile instead of sorting through my pictures, playing with my kids, finishing up the laundry, paying attention to stop lights. etc. etc.

I don't blame twitter entirely for my ADHD when it comes to getting stuff done, but it definitely wasn't helping.

Happy Monday - It's Me!

So, yeah, let me brag for a moment.

I've been feeling good.

I love that the sun is out more.

I've been taking my vitamins regularly again (why do I neglect them in the winter when I'm sure I need them the most?)

I have more energy. (Don't get me wrong, I still crave an afternoon nap, but can usually work through the urge.)

I've changed my morning routine. I think this is what's doing it for me. Tomorrow will be week 4 of me waking up early. My friend sent me this DVD. My favorite quote from good ol' Rodney is, "The morning is a precious time. Too often people try to stay in bed until the last possible second leaving their morning feeling rushed. The morning sets the tone for the entire day." It sounds crazy, but I actually find myself just stepping right out of bed and heading straight towards the DVD player for some morning yoga. I do this Monday-Friday and guess what. On the weekends? I still wake up early (before Quinn is allowed out of his room) and I just sit and drink some coffee... though I'm thinking of adding yoga to my weekends as well. I always was a morning person, but I think I've been convinced that it's not normal to want to wake up any earlier than you need to.

Oh, and also, my gym (location) closed, so I joined a new gym. More on that later. But it makes me happy.

Logical Proof: Mothers Are Wicked.

If it's true that, "There is no rest for the wicked."

And experience has proven that there is also no rest for moms.

Then, it must be true that some mothers are wicked.

Wait.

Isn't the saying, "No rest for the weary"?

Nevermind.

I need a nap.

Hope you all had a good weekend - now - get back to work!

Mother's Day

I was going to do a post all about how I want a do-over of Mother's Day. Instead...here's a list of things that didn't suck today.

  1. Quinn picked out my two favorite books to read to him before bedtime. (The Napping House and The Cat in the Hat)
  2. Liam and I swinging side by side and him saying "hi mamma!" Every time we passed each other. (We were facing opposite directions.)
  3. Mike actually wrapping a present for me, instead of just sticking it in a bag.
  4. Me being selfish and not going to the family party on time. Instead, we showed up almost 3 hours late - so we could all take a nap before we left.
  5. The ladies in the Childcare place at Lifetime were able to get Liam to stop crying - I was able to finish an entire spinning class and when I went to pick the boys up they didn't want to leave and Liam was playing happily.
So, yeah, today didn't totally suck, but it could have been better.

Words Liam Knows That Quinn Never Would Have Used Before He Was Two Years Old.

So, Liam will be two in less than a month. TWO. As in 2 years old. As in, "hello? What happened to my baby?"

I've noticed a few words coming out of his mouth that Quinn never would have uttered at such a young age.

Here you go:
  • bad guy? (He says it in sort of a question - as in, "are you a bad guy")
  • good guy? (or "are you a good guy?")
  • shooter
  • pirate
  • ARGH!
  • pshh pshh pshh (swording noises)
  • recycle (Quinn learned all about recycling in preschool and now checks everything to see if it is, in fact, recyclable. Liam follows suit. This would be so adorable, if they didn't insist on checking everything, including cups, bowls, plates, and anything else filled with something that can, and usually does, spill.
  • Mine (sure, Quinn said this when he was younger, but really, Liam really enunciates each and every sound in this word, so as not to be mistaken that, that doorknob right there, that one, it is in fact his and nobody else better hold onto that doorknob.)
  • bubble bath? (Liam asks this every night. Quinn didn't have his first bubble bath 'til he was 3 - I had sensitive skin growing up and was worried about Quinn's skin.)
  • Incredibles? (Liam asks to watch this all the time. It used to be "Eva" for Wall-E, but now he loves the Incredibles. At 23 months Quinn only knew Elmo, Barney, and Thomas.
  • Time out. Wait. beep beep beep. All done. (Sure, Liam hasn't had an official time out yet, but Quinn has had plenty. And Liam hates when Quinn is in time out, so he recites the phrase, time out. Quinn. Wait. beep beep beep. All done. And Liam is so happy when the time out is over, even if Quinn earned his time out by pushing Liam or taking something away from him.)
And really, looking at this list isn't even close to as adorable as it is listening to Liam's voice. Bubble bath is my favorite - the inflection of his voice and the way he shakes his head yes. Oh, and Incredibles? so cute as he takes every single DVD out of the cabinet to find that movie before asking if we can watch it. How am I supposed to say no?

This is my baby. My baby who's going to be two.

Why I love Mondays so much.

Okay, so here it is. A list of reasons why I'm happy on Mondays.

  1. If I'm up and getting the kids ready to go to the sitter's house by myself it means that Mike and I both still have our jobs.
  2. I almost always manage to make lunch for Mike and I, get the drinks and food ready for the sitters, and pack up my bag on Sunday night. Every other night before I work - doesn't always happen. So Monday mornings actually run pretty smooth.
  3. Monday night I go to my most favorite workout class ever! Zumba! I love it and look forward to it all day.
  4. Monday morning at work, my co-worker takes my class for music time. (We actually take turns doing this, but her turn is always Monday morning giving me a few minutes to catch up on a few things.)
  5. Mike goes grocery shopping Sunday night, which means our fridge is full of yummy and healthy choices for me.
  6. I'll be honest, I love routine - and nothing says "Hello, routine life!" like Monday morning.

So there you have it! But honestly, why not love Mondays? Try just saying it, thinking it, and maybe Monday won't be so bad for you! Now, don't get me wrong, I love me some Fridays too (actually, Saturday, Friday I'm usually exhausted!). The weekend. Oh, I do love the weekend!
